Who was Nipon Goswami?
Nipon Goswami, a veteran actor and theatre performer in the Assamese film industry, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, in Guwahati, Assam, at the age of 80. For a significant amount of his later professional career, he battled cardiovascular problems. His care has been ongoing for the past few days at the Nemcare Super Speciality Hospital in Guwahati, Assam, where medical professionals have done everything they can to save his life. He battled the illness for an extended period of time before passing away at the Nemcare Hospital.
His unrivaled acting talent in Assam throughout the 1970s and 1980s impressed moviegoers and made him a pillar of the Assamese cinema industry. There were countless people who loved his amazing works in theater and film, from small towns to remote villages. Long lines of admirers formed to greet him while his popularity was at its height. This loss is bigger after the demise of the Bharat Ratna, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the Sudha Kontho of the Assamese music industry, who passed away a few years ago.
Family and Schooling of Nipon Goswami
Nipon Goswami left a void in the Assamese film industry that won’t be easily filled. He was born on September 3, 1942, in a home for artistic talent in Kolibari, Tezpur, Assam. His mother, Nirupama Goswami, and his father, Chandradhar Goswami, were well-known artists at the time. His father was a famous actor who inspired the people of Assam, while his mother was a well-known vocalist.
Nipon Goswami studied at Kolibari LP School and Tezpur Government High School in Tezpur, Assam. He was enrolled in the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) after receiving his degree, where he was classmates with well-known Indian actor Shatrughan Sinha and famous director Shubhash Ghai.
The Cfilm career of Nipon Goswami
In 1957, Nipon Goswami made his acting debut in the film Piyali Phukan, directed by Phani Sharma. The first movie in which he played the lead role, Sangram, was a hit. The movie Dr. Bezbaruah made him a star of the Assamese film industry when it was released in 1969. In the 1970s and 1980s, he consistently made appearances in a number of wildly popular Assamese movies. He also had the opportunity to perform in a few Hindi movies.
Additionally, Nipon Goswami was well-known in Assamese mobile theatres like Hengul, Abaahan, Kohinoor, and Shakuntala. Along with acting in theaters, he also made a few TV appearances; one of his most well-known appearances was in the serial Writu Aahe Writu Jaai.
