Fresh fruits export surged by 29% from April to December 2023

Fresh fruits have become a shining star in India’s agricultural export landscape. It showed a remarkable growth of 29% from April to December 2023, as per the latest data from APEDA. India’s fresh fruits are now reaching 111 countries, up from 102 in the previous year, solidifying their position in the $100 million plus export category.

Key commodities like bananas, kesar, dasheri mangoes, lentils, and fresh eggs saw impressive growth during April-November 2023. Basmati rice also performed well, with a 19% increase in export value, reaching USD 3.97 billion. The quantity of Basmati rice exports grew by 11% during the same period.

Basmati rice’s top markets include Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the US, and the UAE, highlighting its enduring popularity and global demand. Processed vegetables and miscellaneous processed items also saw a 24% surge in exports, along with substantial growth in fresh vegetables.

Out of 23 principal commodities in APEDA’s export basket, 18 showed positive growth, with 13 large PCs exceeding USD 100 million in exports experiencing an average growth rate of 12%.

In the fiscal year 2022–23, India’s agricultural exports reached USD 53.1 billion, with APEDA’s commodities contributing a significant 51% share. This underscores the sector’s robust performance and its crucial role in India’s export economy.
